Should I Upgrade WordPress?

Last week, WordPress released version 4.8, aka “Evans” in honor of American jazz pianist and composer William John “Bill” Evans. This release adds added more user oriented features. If you’re a hands-on WordPress user, you will appreciate many of the new features included in this release.

Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress, particularly when there are security plugs built-in. Having the latest version makes it more supportable over the long run. HOWEVER, it’s very important that you make sure that an upgrade doesn’t break anything. That said, you should take a backup of your site, apply the update, make sure things are working properly. Usually a breakdown occurs when one of your add-ons (a.k.a. plugins) does not work with the new version. Most reputable plugin developers are in lock step with WordPress and make sure they test to make sure their plugins are compatible with new releases.

So, make sure you’re backed up, your plugins are current and you’ll be enjoying the benefit so the new features of WordPress.
